Peaceful Sleep

I turned my head and gazed at the sun.

With the pain and the fear,

The world had made me numb.

And as all started to fade,

And my pieces started to break away.

I witnessed my heart, falling apart.

But then I turned again,

Facing the path ahead of me.

And I realized I was living in the past.

I stood far and above the horizon,

The moon was shining brightly on my side.

The shadow my shattered soul had cast,

Stared right back at me,

through the diminishing darkness of my past.

But I had broken free,

From the chains of distress tying me down.

My crown lay there,

On the sand where my feet stood bare.

I didn’t want to hide anymore,

I wanted to be real.

I’d burnt the mask I’d been hiding behind.

But the world had deceived me and now my soul felt sore.

The real me was not accepted.

So, I let the cool breeze blow through my hair,

I let the sunrays warm my cells.

And I let the tides carry away my scent.

As I let myself be consumed by the ocean.

I fell into a peaceful sleep at last.
