Poetry : Winter Winds

Winter Winds

The autumn leaves have fallen.
The winter winds blow.
Oh, the cold white veils the things I see.
The clock stops, time ceases ; and nothing moves or grows.

The cold chills my bones
The snow burns my skin.
The winter holds me in its grips,
So I cuddle myself and hide within.

I watch my dreams drip like snowflakes from the sky.
Melting away from my touch when I try.
If only the warmth was here,
If only these cold metal shackles weren’t there.
Maybe my dreams would then vaporize and fly.

But something about being bound,
in this warmthless hold of nature is serene.
Even as life ceases superficially,
It continues to grow within.

But right here in this moment,
I stand and smile at the white sight.
I wonder what’s to be done in this frost .
Do you know?
For the autumn leaves have fallen.
And the winter winds blow.

  2. Hi M! First of all, how are you? I know I have been offline for quite a few months. Second of all, did I notice a change in your writing style?

I may be wrong but you have improved with the ease of the flow of poetry. I love it how this piece flows with a soothing pace, allowing my mind to create abstracts of your words. Brilliant piece of writing!

And, I loved the repetition in the last. This poetry can actually fill me with serenity.

    Enigma :) <3

    1. Oyi, my my you’re finally back E! It’s been so so long!

Gosh I’m genuinely so happy to hear from you, you have no idea. I’ve missed your thoughtful, witty, observant and always sweet comments, and not that I need to mention, your downright phenomenal writing skills.
I so wish you’re not wrong and the only change in my writing style is improvement 😂. But I’m delighted to hear you liked the flow of this piece. And oh, if you’ve noticed, I often end my pieces the way they’ve started, like a complete circle. Somehow, in some strange way, it makes the composition much more wholesome to me.

PS. I hope you’re doing great E, let’s catch up now, shall we? =) 💜

      1. The feelings are mutual M! I am happy to read your works and to be in this blogging community. Honestly, I tried writing a lot of times but a Writer’s Block blurred my thoughts however, things are better now.

Yes, I have noticed that your pieces end and start the same way, I do remember reading one of your poems about fire I guess. I don’t remember the title but I have observed it and trust me, it brings a smile to my face when you bring the story to a complete circle, i like when writings of any writer connect the dots.

I am doing great M and it makes me so happy to be back. How are you doing? Tell me what you have written since then.

        Enigma :)

        1. Ah Writer’s Block is the worst! When it comes, it just doesn’t go =(
Mine is gone and I wish yours would never return too.

I’m so happy you’ve noticed and like the way I often end things the way they started! =)

And ah , since you’ve been gone, I haven’t been too frequent in posting sadly, mainly due to a writer’s block and school pressure. But I’m back in form, hopefully, I’ll get back to my pace of posting soon.

  3. Megha, buddy , you’re giving me chills!!
Not just because this poem is about winter and snow ( I love them!!) but also because you’ve taken me on a ride where branches laden with snow have brushed my shoulders, where bracing winds have enveloped me, where I’ve seen the sheer beauty of nature, where I have gone through tons of emotions and lastly, where I’ve been happy, genuinely!!
You seriously had me when I read this:

“I watch my dreams drip like snowflakes from the sky.
Melting away from my touch when I try.
If only the warmth was here,
If only these cold metal shackles weren’t there.
Maybe my dreams would then vaporize and fly.”

Oh my god! Do you drink magical potions to aid you with such wonderfully awesome thoughts!!😅

How should I compliment you? You’re so brilliant!!❤❤

      *Cries and Dies *😭
Ayi you have no idea how happy, like seriously genuinely happy you’ve made me right now.

Girl, what did I even do to deserve your love?

Whatever it was, I’m glad I did it.

I fall short on words to express my thanks, specifically for you, not just because you see my poems the way I do, but also because you’re too surreal ; to good to be true. To you it might just be a comment, but to me, all your responses, all your words are things that I dearly value and cherish.
And oh it isn’t me who drinks magical potions, it’s definitely you.
You’re too sweet, I think I’ll get diabetes. (OHMYGOD I’m so sorry for that horrible joke I just couldn’t resist 😂)

Lots of love to you Riddhima! 😚💜

  4. That is beautifully written. Enjoyed reading this piece. There’s a hint of winter peace when you read this. The silence and the cold, which soothes you yet keeps you hoping for warmth. Cheers.
