The Heavens Cried

She’d always loved the rain.
The scent of wet grass,
The refreshing cold,
Even the agony and the pain.

But she waited eagerly for what followed the downpour of the heavens.
Those colours splattered in the sky,
The rainbow hinting at her faded smile.

For each time she looked at that spectrum,
She was reminded of her.
The one woman she dared to love,
Then lost through stereotypes, prejudices and hatred in a blur.

“How can happiness exist and thrive?” she often wondered.
When man can’t even coexist.
Without mutual respect and love,
No man can survive.

But on that one fateful evening,
When her heart grew heavy with sadness.
The heavens cried for her one last time,
And brought news of the delayed end to a madness.

The voices and words rang through her mind,
“I am what I am. So take me as I am.”
And with a newfound hope,
She let herself fully smile.

But just when she thought her heart would burst of happiness,
Ecstasy came knocking in a unexpected form.
On her doorstep she stood, with a smile on her face and a wedding ring in her hand.
“Will you marry me now?” she whispered, “Isn’t this what we planned?”

Today deserved a special post.

Today will go down in Indian history as the day love won. Homosexuality is not a crime in India anymore.

It’s such a huge step. I’m so happy for the many who’ve struggled through the years to achieve this.

And so, here’s a special piece I thought of writing in response to such a big change. Let me know what you thought about it.

Happy Blogging!
